BCAA Powder Composition
This instantized BCAA mix is comprised of a 2:1:1 ratio of L-leucine, L-valine, and L-isoleucine respectively.
Considered the “main” amino, Leucine, is primarily responsible for the muscle building benefit of BCAAs. This amino acid is an activator of mTOR (mechanistic target of rapamycin).* Compared to the other two amino acids, L-Leucine has the most studies completed in isolation.
Valine seems to be the least beneficial of the three amino acids in BCAA mixes, mostly due to its lack of scientific studies. However, it can maintain healthy nitrogen balance in the body.*
Isoleucine induces protein synthesis more than valine, but less than leucine. Despite its ability to increase glucose uptake, it does not foster glycogen synthesis.*
Best Time to take BCAAs and Dosage
Pre and post workouts are the best times to take this BCAA mix. Take 5-10 grams for each dose. Another great time to take BCAAs is first thing in the morning when you are in a fasted state and you either do not want a large breakfast or lack the time for proper protein intake.
Since this mix is instantized, you can blend it into your pre or post workout shakes or juice. Drinking this mixture in plain water isn’t recommended unless you add flavoring.
What’s with the Taste of Unflavored BCAAs?
Unflavored instantized BCAAs are best when mixed in something that already has flavoring, such as a shake or juice. If you only have water available, use a sugar or sweetener packet.
Benefits of Supplementing with BCAAs
Although branch chain amino acids are already found in many protein sources such as eggs and fish, supplementing prevents a serum decline of amino acids that occurs during exercise.*
BCAAs promote muscle protein synthesis and may also be used to prevent fatigue in some athletes.*
