What is Inositol?
Inisotol is commonly referred to as vitamin B8, but this is a misnomer (more on this below). Myo inositol supports your body’s cell communication and cell membrane regeneration (source).
Myo-Inositol
There are two types of inositol commonly sold as dietary supplement: inositol hexaphosphate (IP6-inositol) and myo-inositol.
When a product is listed as just ‘inositol’ without the stereoisomer specified, then it refers to the myo-inositol version, such as this product.
Is Inositol a B Vitamin?
Despite being labeled as a B vitamin by some vendors, inositol isn’t actually a B vitamin. Inositol is labeled as vitamin B8, but this is a former designation and is no longer considered a true vitamin.
Inositol Benefits
Aside from supporting healthy cell function, inositol also promotes a healthy mood.
Dosage
Inositol dosage is recommended at 500mg to start. Then increase the dosage to 1000mg if you experience no side effects and if 500mg did not produce the desired benefits.
Why is Inositol in Some Energy Drinks?
We don’t know the intentions of energy drink manufacturers, but this supplement is likely in some energy drinks due to its benefit in promoting a healthy mood. Too much caffeine can result in “caffeine jitters” and feelings of anxiousness. L-Theanine can also reduce the side effects of high caffeine consumption, however our guess is that manufacturers chose inositol due to its lower cost.
